Do not buy this version!

I didn't bother reading the reviews since I have already read this book and just needed a copy for my son's summer reading assignment. Huge mistake! The font is microscopic and there are no page numbers, making it unusable for him. I will be getting my money back.

Great book, poor edition

A very significant allegory appropriate for the times; as this is an election year, I bought this for my two teenage sons to inspire political discussions. No complaints about the book itself; you can;t go wrong with George Orwell. However, I was shocked when I turned to the publication information page and found that the only info provided is "Happy Bookshelf" and the year 2016! Absolutely no mention of the fact that Orwell published this masterpiece in 1945. It even says "First Printing: 2016!" I am sorry I bought this particular edition, as although it must somehow be legal if Amazon is selling it, the flagrant disregard for original copyright information is the antithesis of everything we English teachers are trying to instill in our students/children regarding plagiarism. I am going to my library to find an original edition so that I can check this one for accuracy. So far it does seem to be the original, though. Also, the print and font are extremely cheap looking: it looks as though somebody just typed it up, photocopied it, and stuck a cover on it.

Great Read---Valuable Insights--Relevant in 2016

This book should be required reading for every middle school and high school student. The current media are a close match for Orwell's "Ministry of Truth," because of the decisions they make to omit reporting of news that makes the administration look bad and to even write stories they know are not true to make the government look good. Even though Orwell wrote this book in 1948 it is very relevant today. In Orwell's narrative there was a branch of the Ministry of Truth responsible for re-writing history...He wrote. "History was anything the party wanted it to be." He wrote in Animal Farm, "that "All the animals were equal but some were more equal than others," and that is true in America today. Some of the ruling elite are not subject to the same rule of law as the rest of us. As the main character of 1984, Winston came to really believe everything the party (Government) told him to believe...because there was no other rational choice...so one day soon we may all be like Winston and really believe all we are told by those ruling elite few who are "More equal" than all of us. Perhaps this book might be helpful to those who still have a mind open to the truth? I certainly recommend this book.
