About the Author
Originally from Cuba, Ali Vali has retained much of her family’s traditions and language and uses them frequently in her stories. Having her father read her stories and poetry before bed every night as a child infused her with a love of reading, which carries through today. In 2000, Ali decided to embark on a new path and started writing.
She has discovered that living in Louisiana and running a non-profit provides plenty of material to draw from in creating her novels and short stories. Mixing imagination with different life experiences, she creates characters that are engaging to the reader on many levels.

Balance of Forces: Toujours Ici

A stunning addition to the vampire legend, Balance of Forces: Toujours Ici, is one that stands apart from the rest. Kendal Richoux was born over three thousand years prior to present day. When her brother was seduced to darkness, she instead chose the light and became a warrior for the Genesis Clan, who receives their power from the sun. She has hunted her brother across the centuries and across the globe, but her impeccable sense of honor has saved him in previous encounters. Now back in New Orleans, she must finish what started in the blazing heat and frigid nights of ancient Egypt. Or will she lose everything again?
I found the idea of the two 'clans' very intriguing - one who lives only in darkness and the other who lives in daylight, but has no problem/weakness during the night. I loved the story of Kendal throughout her many guises during the years and it gave great insight to who she started out as and who she has become. I thought the exchanges between Piper and Kendal were great - a verbal game of cat and mouse. The ending leaves room for a sequel or the next book in a series and I am looking forward to either of those possibilities.

As always Ali Vali has producted another excellent story line and great characters. Such great imagination! I love the fantasy world that she produces and as always they are read in just a few day since I can't wait to see what happens!!!

Great book with a hard-to-like second female lead...

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD SO BE WARNED:
Ali Valli's latest book was excellent; I found it had only one flaw: Piper, the second female lead.
Why, do you ask? Because she crossed the line from feisty to jerky. Her conduct crossed the line many times. As far as I could tell, the only reason Kendall was interested in her was her resemblance to someone from the past. Her turnaround was not believable. She seemed so shallow and two-dimensional compared to Kendall, who seems so deep, so many-faceted. At times, Piper was too much like the man who tries to trip her up; those two seemed made for each other. And to be so straight and then "suddenly" have a change of heart. Puh-leaze. Not believable at all. And yes, I know this is a fantasy book; as a reader, I do want some believability when it comes to the relationship portion of the story.
Now, Kendall, on the other hand...what a wonderful creation. I wanted so much more for her, and, in my opinion, Piper wasn't it. Piper wasn't worthy of her Kendall's love. The relationship between Kendall and her mentor was beautiful, very moving.
I love the concept, I loved the idea of this book. I love the fact that (hopefully) there will be more books, and very soon. Piper needed more development, especially to be connected with someone as well-developed as Kendall (yes, pun intended).
