More Natasha Knight please!

Skye is a photographer for a tabloid paper, a job she's not necessarily proud of but it's a job and puts food on the table. She and a colleague are caught trespassing on the grounds of a posh mountain resort, where the head of the security team turns out to be Aidan, who was her older brother's best friend years ago, and who kissed her on her 18th birthday and then disappeared. He lets her go, with a warning that if he catches her sneaking around his mountain again, he'll spank her.

A year later, and she is again sneaking around the resort, trying to get pictures of a celebrity rumored to be there with his mistress. But this time she witnesses a murder before getting caught by security, who once again deliver her to Aidan.
Given that two Russian mob families are involved, and Skye's life would be in danger if they ever found out she'd taken pictures of them, Aidan makes Skye stay with him so he can protect her. And punish her.

I was drawn into the story very quickly. A tabloid photographer is definitely a sleazy profession, but Skye is a very likable character, though seeming younger than her age and pretty naive. Even while doing her job her conscience pricks her and she has misgivings, but a girl's got to eat, right? It's been ten years since Aidan, who is quite a bit older than her, kissed her, and she's been angry at him ever since for just leaving and disappearing completely. Aidan has never forgotten that kiss either, but he believed at the time he was too old for her, and then he went undercover and couldn't contact her or her brother if he'd wanted to.

The relationship between them develops quickly, which is expected given their history and the current circumstances, so it didn't feel too rushed. The plot line with the Russian mob families at first felt a little unrealistic to me, but then quickly became suspenseful. In the middle of the heaviest action though the narrative sort of jumped over the action, so that events happened but were not described. For instance, Aidan leaves Skye at a hidden cabin, and she locks the door behind him:

"But before she ever had a chance to unzip her bag and take out the blanket she'd packed, there was a muffled sound of something she wasn't sure she recognized at the door and within a few moments, two men were inside, one reaching for her, silencing her with a hand over her mouth before she could even scream."

What happened during those "few moments"? How did the men actually get inside? Did they pick the lock? Break down the door? Jimmy it open? Too much was left out there. In another scene, Aidan is sitting in a chair, with a man standing behind him, holding a gun to his head:

"Aidan jumped up from his seat while taking out his own hidden revolver and knocking the guard over the head."

I felt like that sentence should have been three or four sentences.

Other than that, the story is pretty mesmerizing. The characters are fairly well written, and the sex was sizzling. Natasha Knight specializes in erotic stories filled with spanking and other BDSM elements, and she's very good at it. For Skye, this is completely new territory, and her emotions are all over the place, as she tries to process and understand why Aidan's treatment of her embarrasses and humiliates her, yet thrills and arouses her at the same time. In addition to spanking, there is bondage and anal play. But there's also a sweet love story at the core.

Natasha knight does it again. This exciting story has Skye Madden witnessing a murder on a mountain at a ski lodge, by the Russian Mob. She is saved and hidden by her crush of 10 years, Aidan Hastings, who disappeared after a kiss that she never forgot. There are many twists and turns in this thriller, erotic romance. It goes deep into the feelings and emotions of the characters and as their relationship develops they explore elements of BDSM and erotic hot sex. All the things that make for a good book are present, romance, mystery, danger, violence, spanking and more. This is an awesome read.

Great story well written The plot is filled with action suspense romance and tons of hot scenes The Hero is a strong Alpha male who knows just what the heroine needs even if she doesn't Will the Hero be able to keep the feisty sometimes bratty heroine safe Will they make it throw this will they find their happily ever after should they be able to stay safe and ahead of the bad guys you will have to go get the book to find out It is a must read but only if you like your stories Hot

Great Video Great Teacher

Jeff is a very giving teacher who shares his knowledge to help make you immediately successful with these projects. Unlike some teachers who make you "reinvent the wheel" he shows you tricks to help with each project. Jeff's easy manner, talking to you like he is sitting in your living room, helps you understand what you may have thought was a difficult technique, but he makes it easy.

Expensive saw blades? Most jewelers buy them by the gross. They are one of the cheapest things you can buy for making jewelry. Jewelry making is not a cheap, and if you are good at it, you soon discover you need good equipment which costs money. And every jeweler has filed back and forth at some time or the other. Jeff shows you some of the less expensive equipment which will provide good results. And by the way, he is a multiple ribbon winner and Best of Show winner at various shows. Learn from a pro. Great DVD.

Questionable Sawing and Filing Techniques

If you are a novice metalsmith, please skip this video. You will learn bad practices that will cost you your expensive saw blades and files. One NEVER files back and forth on a piece, nor does one use a saw in such an aggressive manner. Another practice that one should avoid is to hold a mandrel (either ring or bracelet) in the air in order to hammer a piece. One needs to brace the mandrel so as to form a smooth circle. Some of the bracelets he makes require VERY expensive equipment to complete--such as rolling mills and disc cutters. Skip those tutorials unless you have that equipment--or can afford to buy it. All in all, this video was a waste of time and money.

Fun and Educational

I don't know about you but I enjoy learning from someone who knows what they are doing. Jeff shows simple yet amazing techniques and he is one of the best teachers I've experienced.

All metal working is expensive and when you see such jewelry pieces know that there is a lot of time, effort and expensive toys involved. That is the nature of the industry and if you don't know that then you haven't taken a basic soldering class.

If you're ready for the next step and want to make fun and fast (well, an hour at least) bracelets, this video is for you!

No one had more to lose in following his political convictions than Paul Robeson. Here I Stand, originally published in 1958, was Robeson's response to the questions about why his mission--to win the freedom of black people everywhere--incited so much hatred and fear in his country.

Following Sterling Stuckey's 1988 introduction and Lloyd L. Brown's 1971 preface, both providing invaluable commentary, Robeson begins with his recollection of a Princeton boyhood. The roots of his world-view that would ultimately be his undoing were set down there. "Throughout his youth, Robeson's father [a pastor in the A.M.E. Zion Church] insisted on 'personal integrity,' which included the idea of 'maximum human fulfillment.'" Indeed, to list Robeson's achievements while attending university is to be in awe of a fabulously endowed man, bent on living out his father's edicts, and achieving his magnificent potential.

As his fascination with the Soviet Union grew, he began to attract the notice of McCarthy's watchdogs. He had begun to draw parallels between the Soviet social "experiment," which brought a whole underclass into the 20th century, and the emerging nations of Africa. In the early '40s, he reached the height of his performing career ("Robeson's Othello was more authentic than that of any other actor of his time"), but soon thereafter, he would set aside his brilliant career and commit fiercely to the struggle for black liberation. In 1949, it would all come crashing down, and for a decade, an ugly, active campaign against Robeson reigned, stemming not from the growing radicalization of his beliefs, but from the turning tide of cold war politics. W.E.B. DuBois, also a victim of the Communist witch-hunts noted, "He is without doubt today, as a person, the best known American on earth, to the largest number of human beings. His voice is known in Europe, Asia and Africa, in the West Indies and South America and in the islands of the seas. Children on the streets of Peking and Moscow, Calcutta and Jakarta greet him and send him their love. Only in his native land is he without honor and rights."

Lloyd L. Brown helped Robeson write Here I Stand, and he crafted the tone, which is at once accessible and impassioned, originally aimed at the black religious community. Paul Leroy Robeson (April 9, 1898 – January 23, 1976) was an American concert singer (bass), recording artist, actor, athlete, scholar who was an advocate for the Civil Rights Movement in the first half of the 20th century. He gained international attention for his work in the arts and he merged his artistic career with political activism to speak out for the equality of minorities and the rights of workers throughout the world. His friendship with the Soviet Union and the Soviet peoples plus criticism of the lack of progress in civil rights in the United States at the outset of the Cold War and during the age of McCarthyism brought scrutiny, conflict and retribution from the American government. His public persona became diminished, his income plummeted and he faced isolation from the Civil Rights Movement in the second half of the 20th century.

Robeson’s life and legacy

Here I Stand is Paul Robeson’s remarkable autobiographical account. Robeson’s candid account of his early years is a must read for students and anyone interested in learning about the formation of Paul Robeson. Robeson’s personal testament describes how to develop one’s own skills, how to become mentally empowered to believe in you, and how to achieve true greatness. As Robeson explained, “Success in life [is ] not to be measured in terms of money and personal advancement, but rather the goal must be the richest and highest development of one’s own potential (Here I Stand, p.18).” I liked how historian Sterling Stuckey’s “Introduction” offered readers a well-balanced overview of Robeson’s life and legacy. Dr. Stuckey informs the reader that Robeson’s life is significant because he was a Black scholar, actor, and activist who remained “loyal to his own convictions.” Robeson stood for what he believed in because he knew that if we do not stand for something we will fall for anything. Stuckey also explained how Robeson’s critics often misinterpreted and misrepresented Robeson’s message. Here I Stand is still essential because this forgotten primary source recounts the main elements—social, political and religious that helped shape the philosophical thought and social activism of Paul Robeson.

A hero and visionary

Robeson was by no means a perfect man; his blind spots at times for the oppression of dissidents and minorities in Soviet Russia under Stalin stands out to me. But his intellectual and personal bravery shine much brighter. An accomplished athlete, actor, singer and activist, Robeson is too often ignored or forgotten when it comes to an accounting of great Americans. He stood up to the Jim Crow power structure and black moderates alike. He never stopped advocating for working people of all races, even after being robbed of his career, fortune and fame by Joe McCarthy and his ilk. In these times, when working people are under savage attack by the forces of unfettered, unrestrained capital, and minorities are having their voting rights stolen by corrupt politicians funded by power-mad billionaires, its important to read the works of men and women like Paul Robeson, and learn from their insights. Read it!

Thankamma Ajithkumar, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich, UK,Adrian Harnett, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich, UK,Tom Roques, Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich, UK

Dr Thankamma V Ajithkumar MD, FRCP, FRCR, MBA is at present a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Previous to that he was a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre, and a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Oncology at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. He has also lectured in clinical oncology at the Regional Cancer Centre in Kerala, India, and was employed as Assistant Professor there.

Dr Adrian Harnett MRCP, FRCP, is at present a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, having previously been a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Beatson Oncology Centre, Glasgow. He is very involved in teaching, having served on various committees of the Royal College of Radiologists for many years and at present is an examiner for the final part of the FRCR.

Tom Roques trained as a clinical oncologist in London and Vancouver. He has been a consultant in Norwich since 2004 and Clinical Director there since 2009. He specializes in head and neck and thyroid cancers and has particular interests in technical radiotherapy and in doctor-patient communication.

Oprah isn't the enemy

This is a scholarly history of what Harold Bloom, called "the American Religion," that is, the tradition of individual spiritual seeking which has a major source in Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, James--you know, the usual suspects. It's a useful counter-balance to the line from major thinkers like Robert Bellah (whom I admire enormously) that Americans under-value tradition, community, self-control, and discipline. As Schmidt points out, things are more complicated than that. There's a passion in this book, and Schmidt has his own point of view that comes through strongly without becoming overbearing (in my view). If you have a scholarly bent and are interested in spirituality, religion, or politics, you'll find this book stimulating even if you don't agree with it.

Takes some of the guessing out of the codes

The commentary really helps explain the different nuances and provides references for related sections. With the turbo tabs and a few post-it tabs, I can find the most used sections easily.
The commentary does make the book much thicker. Without the tabs, the extra thickness made it harder to find that one sentence or table you are looking for.
