Wet-your-pants hilarious!

I was in a bookstore, and happened upon this book. I picked it up and started to read, and began to giggle, out loud. I felt that I was being too loud, so I closed the book and put it down until I felt I was under control again. I then picked it up to read, but burst into giggles again. This happened several times. I wanted to buy the book in the store but it was kind of beat up, so I ordered from Amazon. I gave this book to my friend for her baby shower, and it was the absolute hit of the party! You know how everyone passes the presents around, "Oh, how nice, ANOTHER tube of Desitin!" "Oh, of COURSE she can use another frilly baby headband!" and no one really looks at them or cares? Well this book took about an hour to make it around the circle; its progress was punctuated with shrieks of laughter. We even called her husband in and he read it and totally cracked up. My friend says she is actually going to use the spinner on the front of the book.

I think my favorite parts of the book are the "Testing Baby's Bottle", "Introducing Baby to Pets", and "Bonding With Baby", but to be honest, they are all hilarious. I read the book about 10 times before I gave it to her and I still giggled each time. I don't have any babies, but I think I might just buy this for myself for laughs. Fantastic shower gift.

Hilarious

My wife and I received this book as a gift shortly after our child was born, and we love it! It provided the laughter that we desperately needed after a week without sleep. Even after the fifth time through, I still laugh out loud at most pages. It's especially fun to share with friends and family when they come over, and now I know not to wake the baby with an air horn.

This book is a perfect gift for new parents.

When drying baby, wrap baby in soft towel. DO NOT place baby in dryer.

This book is hilarious! I can't think of a better gift for someone who is about to have a baby. Sure, you could buy them a Dr. Spock book, a car seat, diapers, or some other equally boring gift, but this ten dollar treat will have them actually remembering who you are! Of course, it also might end your friendship if you are implying in a not-so-subtle manner that you question their parenting skills and believe their baby is in imminent danger. But even if they do never speak to you again, at least you will always be remembered for this wonderful book.

Not what I expected

I bought this book as inspiration for my jewelry because I like to work symbols into my pieces. It has a beautiful selection of symbols though I would like more text description for them. I also had issues with the separation between the symbols and their respective text. This book is set up such that the text is in a list across a couple pages and then there are several pages of symbols that follows. I would have liked the text to be with the corresponding images so that I don't have to continually flip back and forth to see the meaning of each symbol. You cannot read this like a book, it's more of an image inventory.

A Wonderful Collection of Symbols

Dover Publications scores yet again! This book hits a home run with bases loaded for many reasons.
First, it is jam-packed with thousands of symbols, signs, marks, inscriptions and engravings. All are in black and white, and all are excellent quality.
Second, the book presents a fascinating range of symbols, organized by subject, including: Symbolic Gods and Dieties (included are Egyptian, Assyrian, Greek/Roman, Nordic and Aztec Gods), Astronomy and Astrology, Alchemy, Magic, Church and Religion, Heraldry, Japanese Crests, Cattle Brands, and a large section containing some of the distinctive marks of the medieval european craftsman/guild marks and signets.
Third, this is a surprisingly useful reference. For writers, historian, artists, and the incurably curious, here is a book that sets out, for example, all of the alchemical signs for the materials (gold, silver, etc) and alchemical processes, a host of Catholic and other ancient christian religious symbols, nice engravings of all the important Egyptian gods, etc etc.

This book has over 200 pages of various symbols, ranging from simple drawings to intricate designs. They are arranged in historical order, begin with various gods and end with hobo signs. Each chapter is preceded with a list of references (the signs are identified by number) and the symbols included are grouped like so:
Symbolic Gods & Deities; Astronomy & Astrology; Alchemy; Magic & Mystic; Church Religion; Heraldry; Monsters & Imaginary Figures; Japanese Crests; Marks & Signets; Watermarks; Printers Marks; Cattle Brands; and Hobo Signs.
There are over 1350 illustrations contained in this book, and all are crisply printed in black and white. Each section has a short blurb in front of it, but not an extensive history. This book would appeal to history lovers, graphic designers, and other symbol geeks. And for the price, it's worth buying.

These are the Generations

This book is a very disturbing description of what life in communist North Korea is really like. It depicts the horrible circumstances faced daily by all its people, especially Christians, living under this brutal dictatorship. But it shines a ray of hope that God is always with His people, especially those who suffer for His great Name. The story moved me to begin praying for North Korean Christians.

Life in North Korea is so under reported....this book sheds lighting on the deprivation in every day life, with the family story being told by each generation. The spiritual aspect was very interesting. I would have liked more detail....made me want to do more reading about the Far East.

When he was killed with only two weeks of his year in combat to go, his sister Gary edited the letters into this short but vivid picture of what a combat infantryman sees. The book is tinged with poignant knowledge that this vital presence, with its eager enthusiasm for life, ended without realizing the plans he so often mentions. Communications to one's family can be more open and candid than any others; Rowe gives them the undisguised feelings of one soldier, doing his job earnestly and well; for us their value is as a personal view of war. Solidly recommended. An additional sad note: Gary died of leukemia early this year.

Pretty good book.

As a psychology major wanting to focus on the counselling aspects, a sensation and perception course was definitely not high on my 'want to take' list. But, not only was the class entertaining and informative, but this text was pretty darn good. It wasn't nearly as dry as my usual psychology text book, and it was highly informative, going into depth and giving examples to tie everything together. If you are a psychology professor, I would highly recommend this text for your class. It made me, someone not interested in the topic at all, not only love the class but continue to use the knowledge that I gained in real world settings.

Somewhat dated but still has a lot of good information

This book was written in 1993 and does not have new technology, such as information on gliders made out of foam (Multiplex Easy Star, for example). The battery chapter does not include NiMh batteries, but does have a discuss NiCad batteries in great detail.

However, there is still a lot of basic information that is quite useful. What I found helpful was the author's explanation of basic aerodynamics, sailplane launching (the new "discus" method is not included, though), and thermal flying. I haven't tried slope soaring yet, but there is a whole chapter devoted to that.

Being a enthousiastic RC-glider pilot, I have read this book to find it a bit superficial. For instance, it pays no attention to RC Glider contest flying (like F3B), it only mentions USA-build Gliders that already seem to be on the market for ages.

Limited and dated applicability

This is a good reference, but too much already is out of date...RC is evolving rapidly! I'm brand new to RC, so it was helpful in general.
